Free Screen Savers with Leadership Quotes

GovLeaders.org has created two free screen savers with leadership quotes that you can download and install on your PC.  The full version of the screen saver displays slides of 58 leadership quotes from our archive (see the "Leadership Quotes" section on the right side of this page to view the archive).  We also offer a screen saver with 18 selected quotes from famous military leaders (these are also included in the full version).  Follow the simple instructions below for download and installation.*

Previewing the Screen Saver

If you would just like to preview the screen saver, click on "Download the Preview" below and select "Open" in the dialog box.  An abbreviated preview version of the screen saver will display normally until you move your mouse or hit any key.  The preview version has 4 slides which display randomly and rotate every 20 seconds.

Installation

Option 1: Easy (and Permanent) Installation
In order to download and install either the full version of the screen saver or the military quotes screen saver, please follow the instructions below.   By following this installation method, the screen saver will remain an option in your Display Properties window even if you decide to use a different screen saver from time to time.

1. Click on screen saver download option of your choice below.

2. Choose "Save" and then select a location you will be able to find easily (e.g. your Desktop).

3. When the download is complete, you may receive a prompt asking if you want to install the screen saver.  If so, click on "Install."  If you do not receive the "Install" prompt, skip to step 4.

4. Find the file and double-click it to open.  Follow the instructions as the installation program takes you through the installation process.

5. Once installation is complete, the Display Properties window will open and show this screen saver as selected.  Choose your desired wait time for activation of the screen saver and then click OK.  The screen saver will start the next time your PC remains inactive for the number of minutes you selected.

Option 2: Temporary Installation
If you would rather not run an .EXE file to install the screen saver, you can also download the bare screen saver (.SCR) file.  To install the .SCR file, please follow the directions below.

4. Find the file on your hard drive and right-click your mouse on it.  Select "Install."

5. The Display Properties window will open and show this screen saver as selected.  Choose your desired wait time for activation of the screen saver and then click OK.  The screen saver will start the next time your PC remains inactive for the number of minutes you selected.

One downside of this installation method is that the screen saver will disappear from the list of screen savers in your Display Properties window the next time you choose to run a different screen saver.  In order to keep it on the list permanently, you should either run the .EXE version of the screen saver (see Option 1) or save this .SCR file to the appropriate folder on your C:\ drive.

  • For Windows NT, 2000 or XP save it to C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32
  • For Windows 98 save it to C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM

Another option would be to keep the .SCR file someplace easy to find (e.g. you could create a Screen saver folder on your hard drive).  That way, any time you change screen savers and then decide to reinstall this one, you can easily find the file,  right click, and choose "Install" again.

System Requirements

Software:  Microsoft Windows 98/NT/2000/XP

Hardware: IBM Compatible PC, 256 color graphics display,
32MB Ram
